Newly restored, the Mencken House represents a proud addition to the Union Square neighborhood's living history. It is a place for an exchange of ideas about the man who wrote so much within the four walls where he lived and died.

Jacques Kelly
Writer and Baltimore Sun Journalist

After many years and determination, the Mencken House Museum has been wonderfully and meticulously restored. Tour the study where this famous journalist and editor worked and influenced an entire generation; stroll through the garden paths with its inlaid tiles and brick wall; the parlor where Mencken played music. This National Historic Preservation site gives visitors a unique glimpse of what life was like in Baltimore during the 1890s into the 1940s, showcasing Mencken's beloved home, with its books, typewriter, beer steins, and other artifacts that makes this gem one of the most extensive and complete house museums in the country.

Marion Elizabeth Rogers
Writer and Mencken scholar; author of "Mencken: The American Iconoclast" (Oxford 2005, 2007)
